Why You Need to Know What Subconscious Perception Is
What you perceive around you is only a small fraction of what your subconscious perception actually takes in. This is important to know if you’re trying to develop a positive attitude and effect positive change in your life.
If you’re like most people, you probably haven’t thought much about how your senses work. So this might be new to you: Your eyes, ears, or sense of touch or taste are not actually perceiving anything. Your physical organs only transmit signals to your brain. It’s your subconscious brain that actually turns those signals into pictures, sensations, or auditory experiences that you can understand.
Your subconscious actually sees, hears, smells, tastes, and
senses everything going on around you. IT DOES NOT MISS
ANYTHING.
It doesn’t ever forget anything, either. But your conscious brain can’t
handle all of these experiences at once, so your subconscious brain
interprets which ones are important and sends those to your conscious
mind for you to experience.
This is where things get interesting…
How does your subconscious mind know which experiences are relevant?
Your subconscious perception decides what sensory information to share with your conscious mind based on your beliefs and habits. A couple of examples are probably the easiest way to explain this…
If you’re a parent, you can relate to this one. You’re sleeping and there are horns honking outside, toilets flushing from people using the bathroom in the middle of the night, cars driving by on the street, maybe a TV going somewhere in the house. You’re fast asleep, but your subconscious perception hears all of these things. However, you don’t wake up. Suddenly your baby in the next room starts whimpering or crying. None of those other noises woke you up, but the crying baby instantly snaps you awake. That’s because you have a belief that the baby is very important. When the baby cried, the subconscious perception heard it and sent it to your conscious brain to wake you up because the baby is important to you. You weren’t wakened by the other noises because your subconscious knew they were not important to you.
Here’s another example. You’re in a room full of people. Say you work in investing. People everywhere are talking and generally all you hear is a hum of conversation but nothing in particular. Suddenly, you hear somebody across the room say something about an investment opportunity. Your subconscious perception was hearing all of the conversations in the room, but because investing is important to you, that’s the conversation to which it steered your conscious perception. There are both positive and negative aspects to this whole process.
The bad news
You simply can’t really see or hear things that don’t fit in with your current belief systems. If you are subconsciously holding a negative attitude, your subconscious perception will share with you only the things around you that reinforce that belief. (Ever notice how some people perpetually see only bad things?) If you are holding a belief that you make $50,000 a year, you will see only opportunities to make about that much money per year.
The good news
If you start reprogramming your subconscious, you can install new beliefs and habits. Once you have a new belief, you will begin seeing things that mesh with that belief. If you believe you really can make $250,000 per year, you will begin seeing and hearing opportunities to start working toward making that much money per year. Your subconscious is helping you achieve your goal. If you believe there’s a positive aspect to everything, you will begin seeing the positive side of things and a positive attitude will become a habit for you.
You’ve probably heard the saying “I’ll believe it when I see it.” But it really works the other way around. You’ll see it when you believe it.
