Meditation - If you don't start practicing it now, you might regret it later
Meditation is a great way to improve many areas of your life and open channels to your subconscious brain so you can more quickly and easily imprint new habits and beliefs. Your habits, beliefs, and perceptions affect over 90% of the success and attitude you experience in your life, so it’s critical to follow a routine of subconscious mind reprogramming.
In Western cultures, most people have traditionally focused on the health and stress reduction benefits of regular practice. There have been over 1,000 studies done on this subject, many which have been posted in leading scientific journals.
Here are just a few of the physical and emotional benefits of regular meditation:
- Lower blood pressure
- Reduced cholesterol levels
- Reduction in stress
- Increased ability to focus
- Reduction in free radicals in the body
- Slowing of the aging process
- Greater creativity
- Increased energy levels
- Improved memory
- Increased sense of happiness and well-being
- Increased neural connections
Generally, your conscious mind is always thinking. You think about something someone did yesterday, the vacation you have coming up, the work your boss has asked of you, the activities your children are involved in, the errands you have to run.
Besides the physical and emotional benefits of meditation listed above, regularly quieting your mind is also a way of slowing down brain activity, which opens up the door to more easily influencing your subconscious mind. When you slow down your brain activity, what you’re really doing is quieting your conscious mind.
Meditation is a great way to begin your subconscious mind reprogramming routine. Once you’ve slowed your conscious thoughts through the meditation process, you can deliberately focus on your positive affirmations and visualizations. If you do these things after you've quieted your mind, the words and images face fewer objections from your conscious mind before they reach your subconscious mind. Without the clutter of thoughts of your conscious mind in the way, your subconscious mind reprogramming tools are much more effective.
A Basic Process To Quiet Your Mind
There are many different meditation techniques you can use. However, if you’ve never meditated before, give this simple process a try.- Find a comfortable position to sit in where you won’t be
disturbed
- Close your eyes and begin breathing in and out through your
nose
- Focus
on your breath. Breathe in and count 1, breathe out and count 2.
Continue counting until you reach 10 and start back at 1 again
- If your mind wanders, simply forgive yourself and focus again on your breathing. Starting your count again at 1.
It takes time to build the mental muscle to focus and clear your mind. The first few times you do this, you’ll find you’re constantly working at bringing your focus back to your breath. That’s okay. It’s totally normal. Most of us aren’t used to focusing on something for that long. Just keep at it; before long, your focus muscles will start building and you will be easily counting up to ten without your mind wandering away on you.
If you find it difficult to focus on your own, you can try using some audio to help you. I personally use the Holosync program regularly. They will give you a feel sample to try so you can see if you like it or not before you commit to buying anything. I find it’s much easier to quiet my mind and focus with the help of their brainwave entrainment technology. I also like to use it when I’m doing my affirmations and visualizations, because it helps open that window to my subconscious mind.
I urge you to give the practice of a daily quiet time a try. It will take some time to get used to it, but give it at least a 30 day trial period. It isn't for everybody, but most people who regularily meditate really appreciate all the benefits it provides.
